Our verdict
A solid pick for freelancers, consultants and job seekers who want a polished resume plus a shareable online version with view and download stats. The free plan is a demo, not a way to get a clean PDF, and the refund promise on the pricing page clashes with the formal policy. Buy it for a defined job hunt and cancel from your Account page before it renews.
- Best for
- Freelancers, consultants and job seekers who send their resume to many people and want a hosted link with view tracking
- Skip if
- Anyone who needs a free, clean PDF; people who only update a resume once a year; buyers who count on an easy refund
- Price
- Free (1 resume, no PDF downloads in the plan list); Pro $16/month billed quarterly ($48 every 3 months); monthly Pro about $25/month (not shown on the live page by default)
What works
- Pro includes a personal resume website and shareable links with view and download analytics, per the pricing page
- 30+ templates, unlimited resumes and a cover letter builder on Pro
- Prices are published in USD and you can cancel any time, with no long-term contract
- Trustpilot reviewers who like it often mention clean templates and an easy editor
What doesn't
- The free plan is a preview: unlimited PDF downloads are listed as a Pro feature, and users report a watermark on free downloads
- The pricing page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee, while the formal refund policy says paid subscriptions are non-refundable
- Auto-renewal and cancellation charges are the most common complaint in 1-star reviews
- Little independent review coverage: no ratings on G2 and no Capterra listing we could find
We have not used VisualCV ourselves. This VisualCV resume builder review is based on VisualCV's pricing page, its refund policy and terms, two independent pricing write-ups and public user reviews, all checked on October 26, 2026. VisualCV's site rate-limited some of our requests, so where we read a page through search-engine text instead of directly, the source list says so.
Why does a small business site cover a resume builder? Freelancers, consultants and solo operators send résumés and capability bios more often than you might think: for client bids, grant applications, agency rosters and the occasional job hunt. VisualCV pitches itself as more than a PDF maker, with a hosted online resume that shows you when it gets opened.
What VisualCV is
VisualCV is an online resume and CV builder. You pick a template, fill in your history, and export a PDF or publish a web version at your own link. The pricing page says the builder is "trusted by 3+ million people," which is the vendor's own claim.
The paid Pro plan adds:
- 30+ templates and unlimited resumes
- Unlimited PDF downloads
- A personal professional website and shareable resume links
- Resume performance analytics (views and downloads)
- An ATS-friendly template and a cover letter builder
- Career Journal Pro, a log for recording wins between job searches
VisualCV's AI Resume Builder page describes an assistant that rewrites bullet points against a job description, suggests numbers to add to your accomplishments, and lets you control tone, length and seniority. The company also sells separate professional resume writing and review services.

VisualCV pricing in 2026: free, quarterly and monthly

When we checked on October 26, 2026, the pricing page opened on the quarterly plan. It showed two options:
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free Account | $0 | Test all templates, create your first resume, preview formatting, Career Journal trial |
| Pro Quarterly | $16/month, billed quarterly ($48 every 3 months) | Everything in Pro: unlimited resumes and PDFs, website, links, analytics, cover letters |
| Pro Monthly | About $25/month | Same features, no quarterly prepayment |
A few notes on these numbers:
- The monthly price isn't visible by default. The page has a Monthly/Quarterly toggle with a "-36%" label on quarterly, but the default view only shows $16. Dupple (checked September 24, 2026) and VisualCV's own blog list the monthly plan at $25, and $16 is exactly 36% off $25. Some older third-party pages say $24, so confirm at checkout.
- There's no free trial of Pro. The free plan is the trial.
- Annual and team plans are gone from the page. Older reviews mention a Pro Annual plan at $109/year and a team plan at $499/year. Frontdesk Review notes neither has appeared on the official page since late September 2026, and we didn't see them either.
What VisualCV costs for a 1, 3, 6 and 12-month job hunt
This is our own math from the prices above. It's useful because most people need a resume builder for a few weeks or months, not forever.
| How long you need it | Pro Monthly (~$25) | Pro Quarterly ($48 per quarter) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $25 | $48 (you prepay 3 months) |
| 3 months | $75 | $48 |
| 6 months | $150 | $96 |
| 12 months | $300 | $192 |
If you're sure you need more than about two months, quarterly is cheaper. If you need one polished PDF this week, the monthly plan costs less, as long as you cancel before the next billing date.
Is VisualCV free?
Partly. The free account lets you build one resume and try every template, but the pricing page lists "Download Unlimited PDFs" only under Pro. Dupple says the free tier has no free download path, and a Trustpilot reviewer complains about a large branded watermark on the PDF unless you pay.
So treat the free plan as a test drive. If you need a clean PDF without paying, see the alternatives below.
The refund fine print: read this before you pay
This is the biggest thing to know about VisualCV, and it's the source of most of its bad reviews.
- The pricing page promises a 30-day money-back guarantee: if you're not happy in your first 30 days, email the team for a refund.
- The formal Cancellation and Refund Policy says monthly, quarterly and annual subscriptions, both first payments and renewals, are non-refundable once paid. It adds that refunds are only granted at the company's discretion "as a goodwill gesture," and that failing to cancel isn't grounds for a refund unless a technical problem on VisualCV's side prevented it.
- The Terms of Use say subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the current term ends.
We can't tell you which document wins in practice. What we can say is how to protect yourself:
- Cancel from the Account page in VisualCV, not by email. The policy says that's the subscriber's responsibility.
- Look for the confirmation email. The policy says to contact support right away if it doesn't arrive.
- If you want the 30-day guarantee, ask within 30 days of your first payment and keep the email thread. Refund requests go to team@visualcv.com, per the policy.
- Put the renewal date in your calendar the day you subscribe.
What users praise
VisualCV has about 189 reviews on Trustpilot with a 3.8 TrustScore when we checked. Ratings are split: roughly 80% five-star and 16% one-star, with very little in between. Trustpilot also notes the company has no recent history of asking for reviews.
Among the positive reviews, the patterns are:
- Templates look professional and are easy to adapt.
- The editor is quick to learn, and several people say they had a polished resume fast.
- Support resolved account issues quickly for some reviewers.
- Mentions of the resume import, AI writing help, public links and the mobile app.
SaaSWorthy shows 4.3/5 from 184 ratings, with praise for templates and support.
What users complain about
The 1-star reviews cluster around money:
- Renewal and cancellation charges. One reviewer says they cancelled but were still charged quarterly and were told they weren't eligible for a refund.
- Price increases. A long-time user describes a renewal that jumped sharply from what they used to pay.
- Paywalled downloads. People expected a free PDF and got a watermark.
- Support reachability. One reviewer says the phone line only takes voicemail. Dupple lists support as business hours only (9am–5pm Pacific).
Trustpilot shows that VisualCV hasn't replied to negative reviews. SaaSWorthy reviewers also mention problems with exporting and with parsing imported CVs.
Outside Trustpilot there isn't much to go on. G2 lists no ratings for VisualCV, and we couldn't find a Capterra listing.
VisualCV alternatives
| Tool | Price (from the sources listed) | Pick it over VisualCV if… |
|---|---|---|
| Zety | $1.95 for a 14-day trial, then $25.95 every 4 weeks, or $71.40/year (per VisualCV's and Kickresume's comparisons) | You want heavy step-by-step guidance and plan to pay yearly. Watch the trial auto-renewal |
| Kickresume | Free templates with downloads, paid tiers for more (per Best Job Search Apps) | You want a free PDF without a watermark |
| Canva | Free core features | You work in a design-heavy field and want layout control. Stick to single-column templates for ATS |
| Reactive Resume | Free, open source | You want a free, private builder and don't need hosted analytics |
Most of these comparison sources are run by resume companies, so treat their competitor prices as a guide and check each vendor's own checkout page.
Who VisualCV fits
- Freelancers and consultants who send a resume or bio to many clients and want to know which ones opened it.
- Job seekers in an active search of one to three months who want a hosted link and a matching cover letter.
- People who keep several versions of a resume for different roles, since Pro allows unlimited resumes.
Who should skip it
- Anyone who needs a free, clean PDF. The free plan won't get you there.
- People who update a resume once a year. A recurring subscription is poor value; a free builder or a document template is enough.
- Buyers who count on an easy refund. The formal policy says payments are non-refundable, whatever the pricing page promises.
- Small business owners hiring staff. VisualCV is for the person writing the resume, not for screening applicants.
Is VisualCV worth it?
For a defined job hunt or a season of client pitches, $48 for three months is reasonable for a polished resume, a cover letter and a hosted link with view and download stats. That tracking is the main reason to pick VisualCV over cheaper or free tools.
It's not worth it if you only need a PDF, or if you're likely to forget to cancel. Go in with a calendar reminder and a screenshot of the cancellation confirmation, and it's a fair deal.

FAQ
Is VisualCV free?
You can build one resume and try every template for free. Unlimited PDF downloads, shareable links, the resume website, analytics and the cover letter builder are listed as Pro features, and users report a watermark on free downloads.
How much does VisualCV cost?
Pro is $16/month billed quarterly ($48 every three months). The monthly plan is about $25/month, according to VisualCV's blog and Dupple. Annual and team plans no longer appear on the pricing page.
Is VisualCV legit?
Yes, it's an established resume builder, and its pricing page says more than 3 million people have used it. Its Trustpilot score is 3.8 from about 189 reviews, and most complaints are about billing rather than the product.
How do I cancel VisualCV?
Cancel from your Account page before the next renewal date and keep the confirmation email. According to the refund policy, a cancelled plan stays active until the end of the paid period, and unused time isn't refunded.
Does VisualCV offer refunds?
